Triple Combination

So, did you realize there were three holidays this weekend (not counting my fake birthday, of course)? Let's count them. One: Easter. Two: Easter Monday. Three: Tomb Sweeping Day. Apparently Canadians celebrate Easter Monday, so our bishop and his wife, being Canadian, hosted a BBQ and egg hunt. Tomb Sweeping Day is basically the Chinese version of Memorial Day. We don't have any dead ancestors buried around here (I know that comes as a shock), so there was no tomb sweeping done by us, but Cody did get the day off work on Monday. It is always a nice surprise when some Chinese holiday pops up, unbeknownst to me, and Cody gets to stay home an extra day.

Here is me trying to snap a good photo of Jade in her Easter dress as we hurriedly try to make it to church on time. Yah, that never works well. And the Easter dress... well, let's be honest, I just grabbed one that she hadn't worn yet out of the stash of clothes I bought for the year when I was home for Christmas. Hey, it is spring-y looking. It works.

As Cody had Monday off, we took it slow and spread the festivities out over Sunday and Monday. Sunday Jade found her Easter basket and we had our Easter dinner and traditional Easter eclairs. Jadyn kept saying "wow, wooowww" as she found and pulled items out of her basket.

I'm certainly not as amazing as my mom and cook big, delicious Sunday dinners every week, but I figured we could make an exception for Easter. We opted for Outback's Alice Springs Chicken instead of the traditional ham this year. I love how Jade giggled with delight after cautiously taking a taste of her eclair.

Monday morning we dyed eggs and had our own little egg hunt. I found that we were very on-edge as we were dying eggs. "Careful, Jadyn." "Okay, put the egg in. Softly, don't just drop it. Don't touch that. Don't do that. No, don't play with that. Okay, that's enough..." Did anyone else feel that way?? Maybe if we were smart parents and had the foresight to strip her down and cover the floor we wouldn't have been so uptight. Such was not that case.

I LOVE how excited she is in this picture once she spotted the extra items in the room.

Of course we forgot Jade's basket when we went to the Bishop's egg hunt, so we borrowed. I think Jade ended up with the largest basket of the lot. :)

She was the youngest participant in the hunt, so it was funny to watch all the kids run circles around her as she slowly found an egg or two.

By the end the older kids were all calling for her to come find the eggs they had "saved" and re-"hidden" for her. I thought it was pretty cute how caring and excited they were to help her out. We really have some very sweet kids in our ward.

Oh my gosh that thing at the end about the older kids helping her find eggs they'd hidden? So so so so sweet! Also she looked adorable in those flip flops. Also we got that same lindt chocolate bunny (or 3). Also you look gorgeous in that picture coloring easter eggs and that shirt with the white necklace is to die for. Also Jadyn with that ginorm basket was so cute. Also Cody looks so smitten and adorable in that picture with Jade. Also I laughed reading your account of the egg dying experience because it's what I was afraid of so I did something different (you'll have to check it out on my blog, when I put it on there anyway). Also I'm so happy that you got Cody for an extended weekend! Yay! Also I'm pretty sure that I regret doing the traditional Easter ham and wish I'd done the Alice Springs chicken (love that stuff). Also, I really need to get that cookbook because it has the best recipes. Also.....okay, I think that's it. Love you.

I felt that way last year when we were egg dying. This year I just wasn't up to it so I bought a Princess and a Mickey Mouse kit, took out the dyes and let them use the stickers they came with to plaster their plastic eggs. No complaints from them, Carson said it was his favorite part of Easter. I wonder how many more years I can get away with it?
