Birds

I have never really given much thought to birds. I guess that's not saying a whole lot because I pretty much don't like animals unless I'm looking at them in a cage. OR if it's an exotic one that I get to hold just because it's cool. OR if it's a panda, obviously. Have I mentioned I LOVE pandas? I would have one of those for a pet. Anyway. Birds. I'm sure there are people out there that love them. Like how there are dog people and cat people. There's got to be bird people.

Birds are actually beautiful creatures. Let me show you.
Don't you love how there is a heart on the cage and the two center birds are kissing (or at least we'll pretend that's what they are doing because I don't know what birds do).

Loved the juxtaposition of the colorful birds and beat up chair. Cody didn't even notice the chair until I took this picture.
This one was Cody's favorite. What a lovely color, wouldn't you say?

So I think we can agree that birds are attractive creatures, for the most part. Buuuut... what about the things they eat? What do you think this woman is selling?
Oh, grasshoppers. Lots of them. Alive. In bags. Ewww.
How interesting(/sad) though that people make their living off selling bugs. At least interesting enough that I had to take a picture. But don't worry. I drew the line at the creepy crawly mesh bags full of slithering maggots. Oh, I'm getting the shivers again just thinking about them. Blech!!

On to the beautiful bird cages. A slightly more enjoyable livelihood I would think.

They are all made out of bamboo. How gorgeous.

Look how artsy this picture Cody took is. I like it.

And this one too. We should leave the picture taking up to him I think.

If you haven't figured it out by now, we visited the bird market last weekend.

The market stalls and shops were set up in a small park-type venue. (With all the picture taking going on, Jadyn wanted a turn too ).
Also taken by Jade .

I'm pretty sure this is one of those bird people I was talking about before. He kind of reminds me of a male Chinese version of the bird lady from Home Alone 2 (or 3?).

There is a small courtyard where locals sit around with their birds and even let people hold them. One guy came right up to Jade and handed her his bird. Trusting. On both accounts.
Don't worry, she only dropped it once after she got nervous when it started climbing up her arm.
Though we had a fun time at the bird market--and actually thought it was quite cool--we were not convinced to become bird people. I think I have a little more appreciation for them though. A little. I know this will come as a surprise, but the place smelled like birds. Cody said it reminded him of one of his friend's bedrooms growing up. What?! Gross. Apparently, that friend had three birds in his room. That definitely didn't convince me to become a bird person.

Did you guys go here just to see the birds? Eric's parents have an African Grey (we're living with them until June when we move to GA). I hate the bird. It's dirty and can really hurt the boys if it got to them. I will never have one!
