Old Stomping Grounds

Being the best husband ever, Cody took off a couple days of work to spend with Jadyn so I could go to Hong Kong for the A.S.I.A. Women's Conference. In short, the conference is for English speaking L.D.S. sisters living in Asia.

The conference was everything I needed to hear and more. It was so uplifting and inspiring. The speakers alone made the trip worth it, but we arrived a little earlier and left a little later than the conference so we could get a little play time in.

We had a great group of about five Taiwan ladies (not to be confused with Taiwanese ladies), plus or minus a couple, that palled around together for the weekend. The responsibility of tour guide seemed to default to me since I had lived there before (and I had a guide book). Surprisingly, I never led the group too far astray! The memories of Hong Kong, and how to navigate the place, seemed to come back quickly once I got there.

Our first site-seeing stop was my favorite place in Hong Kong: The Peak.

Riding the tram to the top.

Viewing the wonder that is Hong Kong.

We took a city tour on the open-air, double decker, "rickshaw" tour bus. The tour was pretty relaxing, a little chilly, and a fun reminder of where we use to live.

Some of the interesting sites on the tour.

We had a glorious time defying gravity with this little maneuver. The first person to correctly guess (posted in the comments) how we are so amazingly strong and well balanced will get a Taiwanese/Chinese surprise in the mail... sometime soon. (I reserve the right to determine how "soon" is defined in this case). :)

Of course we ladies need to eat, so we certainly enjoyed ourselves. In fact, I was quite determined to make it back to my two favorite restaurants in Hong Kong (see my top two food reviews here), and the girls were kind enough to oblige me. Or they just didn't know any better.

The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, complete with Star Ferry ride and light show, was also on our agenda. It is probably my second (and Cody's first) favorite place in Hong Kong.

Add on a couple nights of shopping in the night markets, and that just about makes our long weekend trip! It was so great to get away with some fun friends for the weekend!

When I first moved to Taiwan, I didn't view it as that different from Hong Kong. Maybe just shorter and dingier buildings. After living hear for about 1 1/2 years and going back, I would say they are completely different. So crazy how perception changes. Even Cody made the comment, "It is interesting to see what you took pictures of, but it is even more interesting to know the ones you didn't take."

PS I'm serious about the giveaway! Post your guesses and I'll be sure to send you something GOOD! :)

Looks like you guys had a great time! I'm guessing there was a tiny little seat or something you were actually sitting on??

Ahh, Jennifer's guess is good but how did we get those angles???!!! ha ha :)
Loved the post Nicole, it was such a great weekend and you were an amazing tour guide. Really.

I am allowed to comment and still recuse myself from the giveaway- I may have knowledge of how it was all accomplished ;)

Wow, what a great weekend! That looks like so much fun! And I have no idea how you did that picture. Little seat, angled funny? Or you guys are all just really buff!

Yes it is a little seat. You can unfortunately see it in the first photo. There's a little green base that runs across the ground to where you are sitting and then a little white bar that runs up that the seat is attached to and then a seat extended from that. Right? I think yes. You can see it in photo one and then the girl in photo four is holding on to it for fear of falling off with her baby. :) I love it. Those are fun pictures. And all the other ones too. I'm so glad you had such a great time and that Jadyn was so happy to see you when you got home!

Nope, sorry, not a little seat. No correct guesses yet. Shannon, I don't know what that green thing is on the ground, honestly--maybe a watering hose? Keep guessing! I'll even let you guess more than once!

I have no idea, but would like to know. I've even cheated and googled to see if I could find out how you did that. Answer please!!

P.S. How nice of your husband to let you have a weekend off! I'm going to suggest it to my husband....

eric guesses photoshop (I thought that eariler too but didn't think you'd go through all that work)
and I think the background looks kinda fake and a diff color than in all the other pics. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Like when I went to sea world and we sat on chairs, and they made it look like we were sitting on Shamu.
