Now, Macau is known as Asia's Vegas. (This city has a pretty cool story. To save you the details, I've decided to just put a link to the Wikipedia article on it. If you get a second, follow the link and check it out). We figure we've both been to Vegas numerous times, so we just skipped the casinos and headed for the old part of town. We spent most of our day walking around the old section of town taking in the mix of Chinese and Portuguese architecture and culture. To be honest, this is one of my favorite things we've done since we've been here. The city was just so cool. Because of this, I took a lot of pictures. But to avoid a HUGE post, Nicole helped me do one of these slide show things. I think it looks silly, but it gets the job done. I tried to put captions to explain a little bit about what was going on.
The highlights of the day:
-Wonderful dim sum lunch
-The Roman Catholic Cathedral
-Ruinas de Sao Paulo
-The Taiwanese girls who took our picture. They were honestly some of the nicest people we've met while we've been here. Nicole even mentioned to me how nice they were to us before she knew they were from Taiwan.
-The surprise "Lion Dance" see below:
Also, just to top off our trip, I accidentally stepped on Nicole's sandal as we were walking, and it broke! Not only that, it broke in such a way that she really couldn't walk. One of us thought the situation was kinda funny... the other didn't. Luckily we had seen a Quicksilver/Roxy store by the Cathedral and the ruins and noticed they had flip flops for sale. Even before "the incident" Nicole stopped to look at them. Since we were now about 5 or 6 blocks away Nicole decided to tie her shoe to her foot with a spare handkerchief so she could make the journey. Let's just say thank goodness for extremely overpriced American style shoes that only kinda fit.
Here is the before picture:
And here is the after picture:
It's a good thing Nicole is so crafty/clever because I spent half an hour running around trying to find tape and all I could come up with is some surgical tape that I'm pretty sure would not have worked.
One more just to show the damage I caused:

Wow that place looks amazing! What a fun day! And I'm so happy you guys finally got your cheeseburgers, haha!
Has it sunk in that you live there, or do you feel like you're on vacation?
Hi Cody, Thanks for making sure Nicole did'nt have problems with her visa and staying in Hong Kong too long. It's great to see all the fun pictures and that you are taking advantage of your free time sight seeing. Have a great day. Love ya!
I had no idea the Portuguese spent much time in China! How interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the video of the lion dance... especially since it lulled Andrew into such a daze that he fell right to sleep afterward! :) We miss you guys!
Very cool lion dance. That was fun to watch. I love that you broke Nicole's shoe. And that "one of you thought it was funny". Haha. I get sooooo mad at Sam when he does that and I always say "you're gonna break them!" Now I can show him your post and he'll see why I get so mad. Yes! Sweet validation! Oh and Nicole: perfect day for your toes to look so cute. They were definitely ready for their photo op!
Hey Nicole, I found your blog through Hilary's (I hope you don't mind). What an amazing place! It's so fun to see your pictures and hear all about your adventures.
I love it! What a fun place to visit, even if you did have to give up your cute sandals. Way to be inventive. :)
