View from the Top

July 1st is Hong Kong Retrocession Day, basically the day Hong Kong was delivered back to "The Motherland" after about 150 years of British rule, so, long story short, I had the day off. After doing some chores in the morning, like paying HK$130 (US$ 16.67) to do TWO loads of laundry in the hotels coin laundry in the basement (you better believe I dropped a few choice words over this) I decided to head out. The rain had finally stopped, and it was a beautiful day,so I decided to head for "The Peak."

I took a ton of pictures, but none of them really turned out. I took these pictures with one old/crappy camera that didn't work half the time, and my iPhone, but it was still gorgeous none the less.

When I headed out at about 2 p.m., there were hardly any clouds in the sky. I thought "Since I'm in HK, I better do this right. I'll take the historic Peak Tram to the top since that is one of the things to do on EVERY "Things to do Before you Die List" in publication." Only problem was, it was a holiday, and in a city of almost 7 million, I wasn't the only one who had this idea. The line for the tram was longer than a Wal-Mart check out line on the Saturday before Christmas. I know what you are thinking "Cody... you're CRAZY! Such a thing doesn't exist." Well my friend, it does. I am not exaggerating when I say the line went two blocks down the street, around the corner, and out of view. I decided to bag it and take the bus up. Surprisingly, I was just about the only one who had this idea as an air conditioned, double decker bus to the same place that costs less than a fourth of the tram was pretty empty. (Score one for the Codeman) Anyway, I'll have to wait until another day to cross off the tram from my "To Do" list, but I did get to see The Peak and the city in all it's glory. Only problem was, since I had to walk around between the tram stop and the bus stop, and the bus took about half an hour to get there, I didn't get to the top until about 4:00. By that time some clouds had started to roll in so the pictures aren't perfect, but I thought I would share them with you anyway. Enjoy

p.s. I'll let you in on a little secret, if you follow the link on the side of our blog called "Picasa Pictures" you'll find a lot more of these. They are un-edited, so some blurry ones are on there, but there are more pic's I've taken that I haven't posted to the blog.
