On “Christmas Sunday" I had high hopes of making it to church early to get pictures of the kids in front of the Christmas tree. Yah, that didn’t happen. We were five minutes late.
Jade was in the skirt I made and Ridge got a matching tie.![]()
We attempted to take pictures after church as we waited for tithing settlement. This is how they turned out:
Let’s just say Ridge is even less cooperative after missing a nap. They look peaceful from the back though.![]()
Thank goodness looking out the window is so entertaining!
Christmas Eve started with a traditional turkey feast, followed up with a reenactment of the nativity. As soon as I announced we were doing it, Jade quickly drew up a cast list. ![]()
Mom = Mary; Jadyn = Angel; Dad = shepherd; Ridge = Joseph
Next up was Christmas Eve jammies… so Ridge could go to bed.

Yah, they are not Christams-y, but hey I got them in America in July, so what’s a girl to do?! I was lucky to find long sleeves!
Ridge’s have glow-in-the-dark dinosaur fossils though, so they’re still pretty awesome!![]()
Next was the sibling Pollyanna. As Jade is old enough to understand gift giving, I thought it important she have the opportunity to give gifts instead of focusing purely on receiving them.
She was also very excited about what Ridge gave her.
Then Ridge was off to bed and we continued with more Christmas Eve lessons and activities.
Here’s our tree--post Santa and post a month-long torturing from the Trouble Bub. ![]()
Such a sad, sad tree. Maybe next time I’ll attempt something like this: http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.hk/2012/11/present-fence-made-for-little-hands.html. Or I’ve heard of putting the tree on a table. May not be a bad idea!
Coming out on Christmas morning!
Jade’s robe may be a bit small and Ridge’s coat a bit big. Does anyone else struggle with their children’s constantly changing sizes??!!
We made sure the big presents from Santa were opened last. I will tell you, I now understand why people say Christmas is so much fun with kids. Jade was SO excited. See for yourself:
Jade had asked Santa for one thing. We have talked a lot about not being greedy and being grateful for what we have. Additionally, Cody’s favorite Christmas book, The Santa Claus Book by Alden Perkes, has been Jade’s bedtime story book for the past month. Jade’s favorite story in there is about Greedy George Greely and how he gets a lump of coal for Christmas because he continually asks for more and more presents. I think the moral sank in pretty good. And she was thrilled when she received her one request (plus some). Santa tried hard this year to limit the presents to keep our wonderful kids not spoiled rotten! Love her and her sweet personality!
Ridge, on the other hand, was simply happy to be there. He attempted to rip paper. He sent cars down his new ramp. He climbed on top of the new ramp. He was pretty entertained by the whole thing.
I love my family! We had a great Christmas. I hope you did too!

Ridges coat?! Stop. It. I simply cannot take the cuteness!!!!
And yes, sizes, especially when you can't try them on in a store except for once a year, remain tricky as ever.
I love the present-fence idea you linked. We put our tree up on our coffee table this year and it worked great! There were still a few ornaments removed by tiny fingers, but not many and it made our 6 foot tree almost touch the ceiling =). That Santa Claus book looks cool, but ouch it's expensive now =). Happy New Year!
The coat for Ridge is so darling! I know you wrote about a lot in this article, but I just can't stop laughing at that sequence of pictures of Ridge and Jade. I blew them up really really big and Sam and I laughed until we had tears in our eyes. The last one is so funny to me. He has great freak out faces! This set, and the ones of him on Santa's knee, are just spectacular.
