Friday we flew the entire one and a half hour flight from Hong Kong to Taipei. Now we are staying in another serviced apartment in a hotel until we find an apartment (we meet with an agent Friday). The first few days in Taiwan were great: I liked our apartment better, the city is not as crowded, we were able to see General Conference on Saturday and Sunday, we met several ward members, the food has been good, and I can use a straightener again (mind you, it is partially ruined from my previous mishap because when the plates got too hot, it burned off the coating--but it will have to do until I can find a new one).
As much as I enjoyed Hong Kong, I think I am going to like it better here. It feels more like "home" (not like Utah-home and not even like the-states-home, but like where-I-can-be-comfortable-and-make-everyday-life-work-home). I always thought I was a "big city girl," but I think Hong Kong is just a little too big city for me. It was fun to experience, but it will be easier to make a life here. Getting around with a stroller in Taipei is also easier. Apparently one of the past presidents' wife was in a wheelchair, so he made the city more handi-cap friendly.
Now I say the first few days were great, because the next couple threw in a few surprises: 1. We went grocery shopping at the Wellcome (same store chain we shopped at in HK) and they didn't have the same foods I was accustomed to buying. Oh, and almost everything was in Chinese, so I couldn't exactly tell what some of it was anyway. That wasn't fun. 2. Monday came and Cody started his first day of his official, non-training position. He had no way to call or e-mail me and he didn't get home until 7 p.m. that night. Long first day! Isn't the first day of any job supposed to be paper work, meetings with HR, and getting off early??? 3. Cody received an e-mail from the man shipping the rest of our stuff from Phoenix. He told Cody he would have our stuff shipped as soon as we sent him a certain form (a form that he didn't bother to inform us about until now). We thought our stuff had been on its way for three weeks now! Now it is going to be at least six more weeks before we have it... which also means we can't move into a real apartment until we get it. 4. Jadyn's schedule has been completely thrown off from packing, moving, sitting through two days of General Conference, sleeping in a new place/crib, etc. Her cute little personality changed starting Monday--she threw the biggest tantrum I have seen from her that afternoon. She has been cranky and doesn't go right to sleep at nap and bed time like she previously did. At the beginning of last week, she started rolling over like crazy; as soon as I lay her down on her back, she rolls to her stomach. Of course I was excited about this until it started interrupting her sleep. Before when I would lay her down after our sleep time routine, she would go right to sleep. Now I lay her down and she rolls over and gets distracted/stimulated/frustrated///.
As I'm really trying to incorporate all the talks we heard this weekend and keep a positive attitude, I have decided the trouble we have run into is all manageable. Except Jadyn. I HATE seeing her grumpy. It makes me feel like I'm not doing my job as a mother to make her happy. I want my sweet baby back (any suggestions are welcome)! Otherwise, Taipei is great!

I am glad to hear everything is going pretty well for you in Taiwan. How long will you be living out of the states? You are amazing to be able to move to another country, just keep up the postive attitude and everything will work out. Don't worry about Jadyn she will adjust and get back on a regualr schedule and life will be bliss again.
Maybe she would be going through a fussy time whether or not you moved or not. Babies go through so many phases, you can't prevent it. Maybe she's having growth spurts/growing pains, and just needs more food. Maybe she just realized that she misses Olivia?! Keep hanging in there. We love you and are pulling for you!
My husband is in the Army so he's gone often (like right now). For the first couple of weeks after my husband leaves, Luke is a TERROR. I just reassure Luke with lots of hugs and kisses, huge amounts of patience, and prayers. He eventually calms down. Just keep on loving her and it will all be fine. Good luck in your new place.
Welcome to Taiwan!!! Jadyn just needs to get back on a schedule, and I am sure she'll be back to normal. Hang in there!
suggestion- infant nyquil! or benadryl! those should to the trick and take the 'grumpies' away... and help with the sleep! hahaha!
i really admire you for what you are doing. just keep going, don't give up- the lord will not, and does not leave us comfortless (even if half your stuff won't get to you for another 6 wks!). you are doing a wonderful job, nicole. i am sure the lord is smiling down on you and so pleased with you and cody!!
thanks for the compliment about the hair. i feel like a fat heffer, but at least i have cute hair!!! love you!
Whew.... I am so relieved that you are there and everything is going good! It is good to hear that it has a little bit of a slower pace and it feels like as place that you can call home.
I’m sorry to hear about Jaydn…. It is crazy when they act up. Mack is always so good but he has had a couple of melt downs lately and I think to myself, “whose kid is this.” But all I can say is hang in there I’m sure she will get back to normal and when Cody gets home hand her off for a few minutes so you can have a minute to yourself!
Hey, let me know if you need me to send you something that you can’t live without until your stuff gets there. I would be glad to do it. You should e-mail your address too me anyway!
Love ya
You're right time has flown by, and now you are the one that has left!!!
Hey Nicole, this is Kelli Roberts from Tanner. Glad you guys are there and safe. Jadyn is probably just going through a stage and can definitely sense all the change...babies are super intuitive. You guys will figure it out together, just be patient in the mean time.
Oh I'm so glad that things are going well and that you feel like you can settle in a bit. That sucks about your shipment! That happened to our good friends who moved to Mexico over the summer, too. They were not happy!
Hey Cody this is Luke...first off Hobbnobs I HATE YOU more today than any other day. I hope you become allergic and die. So, How is our home land? Can we come visit you? The End. P.S. Do they have WWF wresting in Tiawan? WOOOH!!
Woo Hoo! Glad you made it and that you feel like you can "live" there. That has got to be a good feeling. Hong Kong misses you!
As for your stuff...grrrrr frustrating.
And Jayden? I've decided just when you think you have it figured out they change into a new phase...and you have to figure it all out again...just to keep you on your toes.
Hey there...I stumbled upon your blog a few weeks ago through Tawnya's. My husband and I rented the apartment at 88 North in Logan after you guys. We've enjoyed seeing your adventures in Asia as Kevin gets more jealous by the minute. We have a little boy that's about the same age as your cute girl. Take care out there!
