This year will be our first Christmas at home as a family, our real home where we actually live, not our parents' homes in Utah that we still like to affectionately call home. In an effort to make it a good one and ward off any impending homesickness, we have been doing some Christmas-y things to get us in the spirit.
To kick off the season we went to Central to check out all the Christmas trees and see if we could maybe find Santa Claus. Hong Kong really knows how to decorate a.k.a. commercialize the holiday.
A Swarovski crystal Christmas tree is the Hong Kong Tourism Board's Christmas tree this year. It is over 94 feet tall and embellished with over 20 million pieces of Swarovski crystal. Complete with a light show (I took this video sideways, then rotated it, so it made the tree squatty and fat; you can see the [more professional] sponsor video here).
I guess nothing says "Merry Christmas" better than something so ridiculously exorbitant. Seriously? Over 20 million pieces of Swarovski crystal? This tree completely epitomizes everything that is Hong Kong. Yet it is the opposite of everything that Christmas stands for. It kind of makes you sick.
The crystal tree made all the malls' trees seem a bit less eccentric. And I liked them better. They are beautiful.
Alexandra House The LandmarkIFC Mall This was the only Santa we found. Turns out we came a week too early for the real deal. And surprise, surprise it costs money to see Santa here. Do you have to pay to see Santa in the States? Pacific Place Yah, she thinks she owns the place. Elements As we were headed home after viewing all the Christmas splendor, I asked Cody, "Does it feel any more like Christmas now?" "Actually, it does," he admitted.
Love the the cute reindeer, and the gingerbread houses. I also want to take that purple chair home. They really go all out for christmas decorations there. It is beautiful!

Do they do that light show every night? I think my kids would like to see it. Was considering taking them to see Santa, too, but not sure if we will.
