Going to the beach in Taiwan can sometimes be an interesting experience. For one, you have the teenagers and/or college-age kids burying each other in the sand and sculpting certain "body parts" on each other. You also have roped off swimming areas (Exhibit A)--like five feet off shore (see previous explanation).

Then there are the people swimming in their clothes (Exhibit B) or the kid swimming in just underwear (Exhibit C) or without (I promise two minutes after this pic was taken, he was. He really was).

You also never know what kind of waves you are going to get. It seems in California and Hawaii the tide is consistent enough you know what to expect. We've been to the beach four different times between three beaches this year, and every single time the surf has varied. This time tall and forceful waves were breaking just feet from the shore (Exhibit D), not leaving much room to cruise in on our boogie boards. As a result, Cody was pounded into the sand and received sand burn on his stomach and back (Exhibit D), which are still tender days later.

We won't even talk about what happened to me, other than to say my dear friend, Kay, may have seen a little more of me than she ever wanted to after a wave had its way with my swimsuit. Oh, and another time one caused me to almost do the splits. I'm still feeling that one today--I haven't been able to bend that way since high school!
And lastly, there's that mom that lets her kid get so sandy she's licking it off her face.

Love it! That's so funny. When we were in Boston there were people swimming in their underwear also. It was so embarrassing.
Better than European beaches where clothes are very, very optional! I am so jealous of the beach play...a sandy baby is a happy baby!!
That is funny. Spencer loves the beach. But, we only have lakes where there aren't many waves.
Me oh my. I have been awol for a while now. You have so many posts are here I haven't read that I don't even know where to start. I won't even comment on all of them because it would take forever. We'll just talk about them soon when I call. Because I am GOING to call. It's been a month I think since we last talked! What???? That's so long. I'm so sorry. I see that you have been trying to get ahold of me, too. We've been travelling a lot, so I haven't really been on a normal schedule. And we're just about to go out of town again this weekend. But when I get back we'll talk. Love love love you and your hilarious blog. Hope Cody's tummy is okay! :)
I love your editing on this post! It's very effective. How do you do it? And how to do you put all the pictures and post them as one? I need to know these things!!! :)
That picture of her should be in a magazine she is so cute!

can't believe people go fully clothed out there
Hahah Love the exibits you posted! Hilarious!!! Your posts are so fun to read! I can't believe that the waves are that strong! Poor Cody! That sounds much worse than the average sunburn folks get when they go to the beach.
Love all the pics! YOur little gal is soo cute licking the sand off her face! Awwwww!!!!
Dang it! Sam says you called last night, but I guess I got home too late because by the time I got back you weren't there. :( This has to stop. We need to be in the same place at the same time. We're going to talk tonight. So when you wake up and read this, call me. For real. I can't liiiiiiiiiive, if livin' is without yooo oo oooou. I can't giiiiiiiiiiiive, I can't give anymore!!!!!!!!!
