Defying Gravity

Tuesday night I finally saw Wicked!! A couple girls from work and I made plans to get our training in Chicago just so we could go see Wicked. I have been wanting to see it ever since I heard about it. Although I am really getting sick of traveling, the show definitely made it worth the trip.

Tuesday night we (the two girls from work: Darcy and Aisha, and Darcy's in-laws from Chicago) went to dinner at this cute Italian resaurant called The Italian Village. The restaurant is decorated like an Italian village and they even seat you in your own little covered booth. Very cute. The food was really good too.

After dinner we walked over to the Oriental Theater in downtown Chicago. The theater was so beautiful; it was incredibly ornate.

But best of all was the musical. A few weeks ago when I was in Santa Fe my flight was delayed by about three hours, so I was stuck in the airport with nothing to do. In order to fight off boredom, I opted to buy a book from the bookstore. The only one that looked interesting (and fun) was Wicked. I anxiously started reading it thinking it would be fun to have the book finished before I saw the musical. Well, to be honest, I read to about page 45 and couldn't take anymore. The book was dark, wierd, a little grousome, and obscene. So of course I started getting worried about what the musical would bring. I asked around about the book and I received the consensus that "the musical is nothing like the book." Relieved, I kept my excitement for seeing the musical.

Wicked, the musical, turned out to be so much fun! The story was so charming, entertaining, and even funny. I absolutely loved it! Here is a little taste of what we saw. (Also, if you click on the Oriental Theater link above, there is a link to a video you can watch of scenes from the play.)

I've never read the book, but I think it's funny that it was so vulgar because the musical is so family friendly! It's so fun and not dark at all. Weird. Anyway, I think you should be done going out of town for business. I miss you too much when you're away... :(

I am so thrilled for you that you got to see this show! Wiked is one of my favorite sound tracks. Although you are working when you travel, you sure have seen some amazing sights! Its too bad "Wicked" the book wasn't better. I have been wanting to read it, but thanks to your sound advice, I think I will find something else!
