August 18, 2004: The happiest day of our lives.

August 24, 2007: ???
Cody and I have been married three years now. It's crazy how time flies! Cody finished up finals last week, so we celebrated a week late. We had quite the funny experience. Neither of us had much time to plan our weekend, so on Friday Cody tried to find a nice hotel for us in Flagstaff, AZ. The best he could find was Hotel Monte Vista. It is supposedly a "historic centerpiece" in Flagstaff. Well, we found the meaning of "historic centerpiece" to be a little different than what we imagined.
There was no parking when we arrived (they have half as many parking spots as they do rooms because the hotel was built in 1926). The elevator had several signs in it to the affect of "please be gentle to our very old elevator" (I was scared I wasn't going to make it to the second floor--especially since I had been riding in there a couple minutes before the doors finally opened). When I arrived at the room (yes, I--alone, because Cody was parking the car a few blocks away), I found only a few items in it had been added since 1926: the T.V. (but not since 1980), the blowdryer (which was on the wall next to the sink in the bedroom), the telephone (also from 1980), and the ceiling fan (which had to be added because there was no air conditioning). And the entire room was about as big as the bedroom in our first apartment (and I think some of you can vouch to how small that was)! At first I thought it was odd that the windows were open when I walked in, but I soon realized they had to be or we would die of heat. To top it all off, the hotel has both a bar and a lounge (whatever the difference is) on each corner, right below our room (we were on the second floor, remember) that had live music on the weekends. We could hear the delightful sounds of the locals and the tourists streaming through our open windows until about three in the morning.
Our weekend in Flagstaff was actually quite fun after we were able to laugh about our hotel mistake.

The train station.

Cute Cody making a face at his crazy wife because she takes way too many pictures.

Cute girl with my son. He must have really know what he was doing three years ago. I'm still questioning her judgement. (not really)
You guys are so cute! :) I laughed so hard at your slideshow of the hotel - very funny. I would have been able to handle everything but the no air thing. I need my a/c! Sam and I probably would have made the same mistake. I was looking at the before pictures and kept thinking how sweet that place looked! Sorry it wasn't what you expected. I'm glad you had fun anyway. Our anniversary is coming up soon, so I'm glad I now know not to go to hotel Monte Vista or whatever it's called. Actually, we won't be going anywhere. We'll spend it at home with a brand new baby...and air conditioning! :) Happy Anniversary!
holy crap that was a funny post...its nice to see that sometimes things don't go as planned for other people besides us....good times...
